Arrangements Underway for Turkish Embassy’s Return to Khartoum

Khartoum State Governor Ahmed Othman met in his office on Wednesday with the Turkish Ambassador to Sudan, Fatih Yıldız, in the presence of the Acting Minister and Director-General of the State Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism, Al-Tayeb Saadeldin.

The visit comes as part of arrangements for the embassy’s return to its premises in Khartoum and to support the government following its return to the capital.

The governor thanked the ambassador for the visit—his second since the recapture of Khartoum—and praised the Turkish leadership and people for their support of Sudan’s government during the war. He highlighted the importance of the visit, noting that the embassy’s presence in the capital would help facilitate cooperation between the two countries.

He pledged to provide all necessary support to facilitate the embassy’s operations, particularly in securing an alternative headquarters to enable it to resume work, while awaiting the restoration of water and electricity services to its former premises. He also pointed to rental options in suitable areas of Khartoum.

For his part, the ambassador said the visit differs from previous ones as it marks the resumption of the embassy’s work from Khartoum, as well as efforts to rebuild what was destroyed by the war at the embassy’s former headquarters and staff residences.

He thanked the governor for the support and facilitation, noting that Khartoum is gradually recovering and that services are returning to citizens and institutions. He added that the embassy is present to support the government in Khartoum and stands ready to contribute to reconstruction efforts in cooperation with the state authorities.
