Port Sudan to Remain Strategically Ready as Emergency Alternative to Saudi Ports

According to Al-Ahdath, new understandings between Sudan and Saudi Arabia have emerged within a framework aimed at strengthening strategic relations and reinforcing historical ties between the two countries. These developments reflect a shared political will to build a partnership based on mutual interests and sustainable development.
The agreements include enabling Sudan to develop its capabilities in oil extraction and production to enhance economic independence and resource efficiency, and granting Saudi Arabia priority in investing in agriculture and mining sectors.
The two sides agreed to establish a modern international airport in Khartoum and to implement a comprehensive plan to expand and modernize Port Sudan in line with international standards, boosting trade and transportation.
They also agreed to develop major strategic projects, including the Gezira Scheme and the Gum Arabic project, as well as establishing food processing facilities in Sudan with Saudi financing and Sudanese management under agreed terms.
The Saudi market will be opened to Sudanese products in accordance with high quality standards, alongside efforts to build a strong national brand to access regional and global markets.
A new economic approach will be adopted, ending intermediary systems and promoting direct partnerships in support of the national economy.
The agreements also include supporting and developing the capabilities of the Sudanese Armed Forces through funding and training, strengthening joint military cooperation, and affirming Sudan’s sovereignty over the Red Sea region.
Port Sudan will remain prepared as a strategic alternative to Saudi ports in emergency situations, reflecting the level of trust and integration between the two countries.
The two sides also agreed to coordinate diplomatic efforts to lift sanctions on Sudan, facilitating its reintegration into the global economy.
