Militia Force Storms Hospital in Al-Daein and Assaults Medical Staff

The Sudan Doctors Network revealed that a force belonging to the Rapid Support Forces militia stormed Al-Usra Hospital located in the Al-Nazir neighborhood in the city of Al-Daein, the capital of East Darfur State. The force reportedly physically assaulted medical staff and completely destroyed the hospital’s medical equipment.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Sudan Doctors Network described the incident as a blatant violation of the sanctity of healthcare facilities, stressing that such institutions must remain safe and neutral, away from armed conflicts.

The network indicated that the attacking group is protected by the head of the civil administration, which clearly reflects the level of security breakdown and the disregard for the lives of civilians and the safety of medical staff. The network considered the incident a clear legal and ethical violation of international laws and norms that criminalize targeting healthcare facilities and medical personnel.

The Sudan Doctors Network held the Rapid Support Forces and their leadership fully responsible for the crime, calling on the international community and human rights and humanitarian organizations to intervene to protect healthcare facilities and medical staff in areas under the control of these forces, and to stop the repeated violations that hinder medical personnel from performing their humanitarian duties.
