{"id":13069,"date":"2024-01-30T12:18:48","date_gmt":"2024-01-30T12:18:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sudanevents.com\/?p=13069"},"modified":"2024-01-30T12:18:48","modified_gmt":"2024-01-30T12:18:48","slug":"princess-reema-wta-decision-to-hold-finals-in-saudi-arabia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sudanevents.com\/index.php\/2024\/01\/30\/princess-reema-wta-decision-to-hold-finals-in-saudi-arabia\/","title":{"rendered":"Princess Reema: WTA Decision to Hold Finals in Saudi Arabia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Agencies &#8211; Sudan Events\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Objecting to the decision to hold the Women\u2019s Tennis Association Finals in Saudi Arabia \u201cundermines the progress\u201d Saudi women have made to advance in sports and is \u201cbeyond disappointing\u201d to see, the Kingdom\u2019s Ambassador to the US Princess Reema bint Bandar said in a statement on Tuesday.<br \/>\nThe ambassador issued a statement in response to an opinion piece published in The Washington Post in which the authors criticized the decision to host the major tennis event in the country because it is \u201ca country where women are not seen as equal\u201d and are considered \u201cthe property of men.\u201d<br \/>\nAccording to the ambassador, Saudi women own more than 300,000 business, and roughly 25 percent of small and mid-size start-up company \u2013 about the same percentage as in the US.<br \/>\nMale-dominated sectors in the Kingdom \u2013 including the military, firefighting, law enforcement, and even space exploration \u2013 are open to women, she added.<br \/>\nWomen in Saudi Arabia also enjoy equal pay, something that has yet to become a universal norm, Princess Reema continued.<br \/>\n\u201cWhile there\u2019s still work to be done, the recent progress for women, the engagement of women in the workforce, and the social and cultural opportunities being created for women are truly profound, and should not be overlooked,\u201d she said.<br \/>\nIn sports, much progress has been made, including the launch of women\u2019s sports leagues and federations.
