The United Nations Human Rights Council on Friday adopted a resolution calling for Israel to be held accountable for possible war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in the Gaza Strip.
\nTwenty-eight countries voted in favor, 13 abstained and six voted against the resolution.
\nThe resolution stressed “the need to ensure accountability for all violations of international humanitarian law and international human rights law in order to end impunity.\u201d
\nIt also expressed “grave concern at reports of serious human rights violations and grave breaches of international humanitarian law, including of possible war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.\u201d
\nMore than 33,091 Palestinians have been killed and 75,750 have been injured in Israel’s military offensive on Gaza since Oct. 7, the Gaza health ministry said in a statement on Friday.
\nIn the past 24 hours, 54 Palestinians have been killed and 82 injured, it said.
\nIn Friday\u2019s resolution, the Human Rights Council called on countries to stop selling or shipping weapons to Israel.
\nThe sweeping measure, which takes aim at an array of Israeli actions such as impeding access to water and limiting shipments of humanitarian aid into Palestinian areas, also calls on UN-backed independent investigators to report on shipments of weapons, munitions and \u201cdual use\u201d items \u2014 for both civilian and military purposes \u2014 that could be used by Israel against Palestinians.
