Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will visit Moscow\u2019s key diplomatic and economic partner China on Monday and Tuesday, his ministry said in a statement.
\n\u201cOn April 8 and 9, the foreign affairs minister of the Russian Federation, Sergei Lavrov, will undertake an official visit in the People\u2019s Republic of China, during which discussions with Wang Yi are planned,\u201d it said on Sunday.
\n\u201cAn in-depth exchange of points of view is expected on a certain number of \u2018burning subjects\u2019,\u201d the statement said, citing \u201cthe Ukrainian crisis and the situation in the Asia-Pacific region\u201d.
\nThey would \u201cdiscuss a wide range of questions linked to bilateral cooperation, as well as cooperation on the international scene,\u201d the statement added.
\nIn Beijing, China\u2019s foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning confirmed the \u201cofficial\u201d visit at Wang Yi\u2019s invitation.
\nRelations between the two nations have been strengthened since Russia\u2019s assault on Ukraine from February 2022.
\nLavrov\u2019s trip follows this path of rapprochement, which saw Chinese leader Xi Jinping go to Moscow in March last year and declare \u201cunlimited friendship\u201d between Moscow and Beijing while condemning Western hegemony.
\nThey met again in October on the sidelines of a Silk Roads forum in Beijing when Xi spoke of \u201ca mutual political trust in constant growth\u201d between Russia and China to a backdrop of total opposition to the United States.
\nAfter his re-election in March this year, Putin said the relationship was a \u201cfactor of stability\u201d, adding he enjoyed \u201cvery good personal relations\u201d with Xi.
\nChina sees itself as a neutral party in the Ukraine conflict, but it has become Russia\u2019s leading trade partner in the last two years and favours a political settlement to end the fighting.
