{"id":20723,"date":"2024-05-03T23:51:48","date_gmt":"2024-05-03T20:51:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sudanevents.com\/?p=20723"},"modified":"2024-05-03T23:51:48","modified_gmt":"2024-05-03T20:51:48","slug":"china-launches-historic-mission-to-retrieve-samples-from-far-side-of-the-moon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sudanevents.com\/index.php\/2024\/05\/03\/china-launches-historic-mission-to-retrieve-samples-from-far-side-of-the-moon\/","title":{"rendered":"China launches Historic Mission to Retrieve Samples from Far Side of the Moon"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>China on Friday launched an un-crewed spacecraft on a nearly two-month mission to retrieve rocks and soil from the far side of the moon, the first country to make such an ambitious attempt.<\/p>\n<p>The Long March-5, China\u2019s largest rocket, blasted off at 5:27 p.m. Beijing time (0927 GMT) from Wenchang Space Launch Center on the southern island of Hainan with the more than 8 metric ton Chang\u2019e-6 probe.<\/p>\n<p>Chang\u2019e-6 is tasked with landing in the South Pole-Aitken Basin on the far side of the moon, which perpetually faces away from the Earth, after which it will retrieve and return samples.<br \/>\nThe launch marks another milestone in China\u2019s lunar and space exploration program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a bit of a mystery to us how China has been able to develop such an ambitious and successful program in such a short time,\u201d said Pierre-Yves Meslin, a French researcher working on one of the scientific objectives of the Chang\u2019e-6 mission.<\/p>\n<p>In 2018, Chang\u2019e-4 gave China its first unmanned moon landing, also on the far side.
