Their aim is to mobilize more internationalization and external support for the tragic war against the Sudanese Armed Forces… These are allegations that are based only on a fertile imagination.”
“First of all, to clarify the facts, the TPLF is a political party,” he added in a statement. As such, it has no armed wing, and does not command an organized militia or any other armed entity. Secondly, the people of Tigray enjoy a long-standing fraternal relationship with the Sudanese people which has stood the test of time. In fact, at the beginning of the Tigray war, when tens of thousands of Tigray residents were uprooted from their homes in western Tigray, they fled to Sudan, knowing they would find safe haven there. Despite the difficult internal challenges, the Sudanese people and the Sudanese government did their best to provide assistance and protection to tens of thousands of desperate refugees. For these reasons, Tigray has no reason to intervene in the ongoing civil war, as doing so would further harm a country that the people of Tigray consider their second home.”
“Moreover, no one appreciates the devastating consequences of foreign intervention in an internal conflict more than the people of Tigray,” he added. “Having suffered severe damage due to the direct and indirect participation of foreign forces in the Tigray war, the people of Tigray know the far-reaching repercussions of foreign intervention in the Sudanese conflict.” “In short, Tigray simply has no reason to engage in a course of action that would further jeopardize Sudan’s peace prospects and harm the Sudanese people, who have reliably and laudably provided refuge to tens of thousands of desperate Tigrayans.”
Getachew urged the army and the RSF to refrain from inflammatory statements that contribute to further escalation, and to resort to the negotiating table to find a political solution to the ongoing tragedy in Sudan. He added: “We firmly believe that there can be no military solution to fundamentally political problems.
