He stressed the need to \u201ctake urgent measures to protect civilians and increase life-saving aid to those most in need.\u201d<br \/>\nThe United Nations has repeatedly warned of the scarcity of food aid in the country as clashes worsen and the entry of aid into areas that need it is obstructed, noting that hundreds of thousands suffer from severe food shortages, noting that the specter of famine has loomed over some areas, in addition to the spread of diseases.<br \/>\nThe Integrated Interim Classification of Food Security, a global tool for monitoring hunger, also indicated that nearly 18 million Sudanese, more than a third of the country\u2019s population of 49 million, face \u201chigh levels of acute food insecurity.\u201d Its estimates also showed this number, nearly five million are one step away from starvation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sudan Events &#8211; Agencies Deputy Executive Director of the World Food Program, Karl Skau, has confirmed that the opportunity to avoid a disaster in Sudan is diminishing.
