The UN Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide, Alice Wairimu Nderitu, said that the current situation in Sudan bears all the signs of a threat of genocide, with strong allegations of this crime.
\nNderitu explained – according to \u201cRadio Tamazuj\u201d – that civilians are far from protection, and the civilian population is being targeted in El Fasher, Darfur, and civilians are being attacked and killed because of the color of their skin, or race, and identity, with the spread of hate speech and direct incitement to violence.
\nShe said: \u201cIn Sudan today, we find, unequivocally, a state of armed conflict, and we note a dangerous record of violations of international human rights law.\u201d
\nThe UN official expressed her concern about \u201cthe motives and incentives for violence expressed by those who committed it, and we are reminded every day of the ability to commit crimes.\u201d
\nShe pointed out that violence \u201ccontinues against certain groups in a cycle of fueling violence, and we see, clearly, undoubted signs of an intention to destroy certain groups – in whole or in part.\u201d
\nNderitu denounced \u201cthe weak response regarding the crimes of genocide by the international community, and that this reduces any progress that has been made collectively to prevent the most serious crimes,\u201d stressing that it is necessary to implement all possible measures aimed at protecting the innocent civilian population in the city of El Fasher, and all the lands of Sudan, and it is necessary to stop the ethnic motives of violence.
