A woman accused of \u201cpolitical interference activities\u201d in the UK on behalf of the Chinese Communist Party denied the claims on Tuesday as part of her legal claim against intelligence services.
\nDomestic intelligence service MI5 warned in 2022 that Christine Lee was a Chinese agent who had engaged with members of parliament after she donated \u00a3500,000 ($635,000) to Labour MP Barry Gardiner.
\nLee is now suing the security services, and on Tuesday told a hearing that she was used as a \u201cpolitical football\u201d and that she \u201ccategorically denied\u201d the claims.
\nShe also alleged that she had been discriminated against \u201con the grounds of my race.\u201d
\nThe Security Service submitted to the two-day hearing that the decision was \u201crational and lawful.\u201d
\n\u201cMs Lee\u2019s race and\/or nationality played no part in the decision to issue an interference alert,\u201d said Victoria Wakefield, lawyer for the Security Service.
\n\u201cAs noted, the decision was made on grounds of national security in order to counter the threat posed by Ms Lee\u2019s links to the CCP,\u201d she added.
