\nA workers’ strike threatens the 77th Cannes Film Festival, days before the opening.
\nAfter a series of tense discussions, workers at the Cannes Film Festival are heading towards a strike, which was announced last week.
\nThe position of the Cannes Festival administration this year differed from the 2022 edition, which witnessed the appearance of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky via video during the opening ceremony, pledging his country\u2019s victory in its war against Russia to the applause of the audience.<\/p>\n
The opening of the 77th session witnessed the presence of a number of Arab filmmakers, including Egyptian artists Yousra and Hussein Fahmy, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Red Sea Film Foundation Jumana Al-Rashed, Festival President Mohamed Al-Turki, Lebanese director Nadine Labaki, member of the official competition jury, and Moroccan director Asmaa Al-Mudair, member of the jury of “Some Look” section.
\nThe 77th session will witness the participation of 8 Arab films in the various festival competitions from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Morocco, Somalia, Palestine and Algeria, including the Saudi film \u201cNoura\u201d by director Tawfiq Al-Zaidi, and the Egyptian film \u201cSharq 12\u201d by director Hala Al-Qusi, and the film \u201cI Raised My Eyes to Heaven\u201d directed by Nada will also participate from Egypt. Riad and Ayman Al-Amir, and from Morocco, \u201cWho Doesn\u2019t Love Toda\u201d by director Nabil Ayouch, \u201cThe Distant Sea\u201d by director Saeed bin Himmich, and the Somali film \u201cThe Village Next to Paradise\u201d by director Mo Hrawi.
\nPalestine is participating in the film \u201cTo an Unknown Land\u201d by the Palestinian-Danish director Mehdi Fleifel, along with the Algerian short film \u201cAfter the Sun\u201d by director Ryan McEidry.
\nThe festival hosts a number of prominent cinema figures from around the world, to present their works and participate in discussions and seminars. This year, the festival witnessed a large attendance of audiences and journalists, which enhances the importance of the festival as a global cinematic event.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
