The Kremlin on Friday dismissed a report that Russia was plotting to assassinate the chief executive of a major German arms maker supplying weaponry to Ukraine.
\nThe United States Thursday informed Germany that the Russian government had a plan to kill Armin Papperger, the head of Rheinmetall.<\/p>\n
Asked about the report on Friday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed it as appearing to be \u201cfake\u201d and said it could not be taken \u201cseriously.\u201d
\nGerman Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock castigated Moscow after the allegations were published.<\/p>\n
\u201cRussia is waging a hybrid war of aggression,\u201d she said Thursday.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith sabotage, with cyberattacks, with the paralysis of GPS so that Baltic aircraft can no longer land in neighboring countries.\u201d
\nA German interior ministry spokesman declined to comment directly on the Rheinmetall report but said the \u201cGerman government takes the threats from the Russian regime very seriously.\u201d
\nRheinmetall spokesman Oliver Hoffmann said the company was \u201cunable to comment on issues relating to corporate security.\u201d<\/p>\n
