{"id":29633,"date":"2024-08-02T18:29:48","date_gmt":"2024-08-02T15:29:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sudanevents.com\/?p=29633"},"modified":"2024-08-02T18:29:48","modified_gmt":"2024-08-02T15:29:48","slug":"spanish-pms-wife-sues-judge-investigating-her-for-corruption","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sudanevents.com\/index.php\/2024\/08\/02\/spanish-pms-wife-sues-judge-investigating-her-for-corruption\/","title":{"rendered":"Spanish PM\u2019s Wife Sues Judge Investigating Her for Corruption"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Sudan Events &#8211; Agencies<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Spanish prime minister\u2019s wife Begona Gomez launched a lawsuit Friday against the judge investigating her for alleged corruption and influence peddling.<br \/>\nGomez is alleged to have used her husband\u2019s position as leverage within her professional circles to influence contracts or set up a master\u2019s program at a Madrid university where she works.<br \/>\nBy filing a lawsuit, Gomez followed in the footsteps of her husband and socialist premier Pedro Sanchez who on Wednesday said he launched a lawsuit claiming abuse of office by Judge Juan Carlos Peinado.<br \/>\nA lawsuit was filed by Gomez\u2019s defence in Madrid claiming that Peinado had \u201cadopted arbitrary and manifestly unfair judicial decisions\u201d against her as part of an \u201cunusual and erratic\u201d investigation, according to the document seen by AFP.<br \/>\nThe prime minister\u2019s wife also accuses the judge of having broken the secrecy of the investigation &#8212; since it had not yet been made public &#8212; after the Madrid courts sent out press releases on the case and certain media published material from the file.<br \/>\nGomez is being investigated for alleged influence-peddling and corruption following a complaint filed by anti-graft NGO \u201cManos Limpias\u201d &#8212; Spanish for \u201cClean Hands\u201d &#8212; which has links to the far right.<br \/>\nOn Tuesday, Sanchez used his legal right not to testify against his wife when questioned by Peinado.<br \/>\nShortly after the hearing, Spain\u2019s state legal services filed a lawsuit in Sanchez\u2019s name and said the premier\u2019s request to testify in writing, as allowed under Spanish law for top government officials, had been unjustifiably rejected.<br \/>\n\u201cThe dignity of the institution of the office of the prime minister is being defended,\u201d Sanchez told a news conference when asked why the lawsuit was filed.<br \/>\nThe \u201crights\u201d of the office \u201chave been violated, nothing more and nothing less, by the judge,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sudan Events &#8211; Agencies The Spanish prime minister\u2019s wife Begona Gomez launched a lawsuit Friday against the judge investigating her for alleged corruption and influence peddling.
