The American and Turkish presidents have called for an end to the war in Sudan, urging the African Union to immediately halt the fighting in El Fasher.<\/div>\n
U.S. President Joe Biden, addressing world leaders gathered at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, urged the world to “stop arming” both sides of the conflict and put an end to the war in Sudan.<\/div>\n
Biden emphasized that the world must stop arming the generals, speak with one voice, and demand that they stop destroying their country, halt the blockade of aid to the Sudanese people, and end the war immediately. He pointed to Washington\u2019s mediation efforts to find a resolution to the crisis.<\/div>\n
He further stated that the U.S. has led global efforts in delivering humanitarian aid to Sudan and, alongside its partners, has spearheaded “diplomatic talks to silence the guns and avoid a broader famine.”<\/div>\n
Similarly, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called for sufficient aid to be provided to the Sudanese people, who are suffering from harsh humanitarian conditions, and to work toward resolving the conflict and ending the war.<\/div>\n
The African Union also called, in a statement, for an “immediate halt” to the fighting in El Fasher, the capital of the Darfur region in western Sudan, condemning the “escalation” of the crisis after a Rapid Support Forces attack over the past weekend.<\/div>\n
The statement from the AU\u2019s Commission Chairman, Moussa Faki Mahamat, “calls for the immediate cessation of fighting in and around El Fasher.”<\/div>\n
Faki strongly condemned the current escalation and the spread of violence in the city. He expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation across all Sudanese states.<\/div>\n
According to Faki, there is no military solution to the crisis in Sudan, and the fighting only prolongs the suffering of the Sudanese people.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
