I was struck by the beautiful, well-maintained oasis-like area nearby, a part of a Qatari initiative to support Sudanese heritage, funded by the Qatar Museums Authority under the sponsorship of Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani, following her earlier visit to Sudan.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">This project initially aimed to fund and facilitate over 40 archaeological expeditions across the Nile and northern regions, supporting Sudan\u2019s historical sites with research, excavation, and conservation efforts. Additionally, two museum projects were launched: the re-development of the Sudan National Museum and plans for a new museum at Naga, a significant site of the Meroitic civilization. However, the project\u2019s progress was interrupted due to political reasons, affecting Qatar-Sudan relations.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Qatari-Sudanese Archaeological Project represents a hope for Sudanese heritage to regain global attention.
