The Central Bank of Sudan has announced the issuance of a new banknote in the 1,000-pound denomination to the public in the near future.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
It confirmed that commercial banks and their branches will continue to receive 1,000-pound and 500-pound banknotes from citizens, deposit them, and store them in their accounts, enabling them to use their balances through various payment methods.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The bank also mentioned that commercial banks will facilitate the process of opening accounts for citizens who do not have bank accounts, allowing them to deposit their 1,000-pound and 500-pound banknotes, along with other denominations, to benefit from banking services, including electronic payment services. It added that it will announce later the date when the current issues of the 1,000-pound and 500-pound notes will no longer be valid and will be considered non-legal tender.<\/div>\n

The issuance of the new banknote is based on the authorities and powers of the Central Bank of Sudan as outlined in its law of 2002. It is part of the bank’s responsibilities to protect the national currency, ensure the stability of its exchange rate, and assist in achieving economic stability. This move also addresses the negative impacts of the ongoing war in the country, especially the widespread looting by rebel militias of the Central Bank of Sudan\u2019s premises and the Sudan Currency Printing Corporation in Khartoum. As a result, large amounts of untraceable and non-compliant 1,000-pound and 500-pound notes spread, leading to a noticeable increase in liquidity and negatively impacting the stability of general price levels.<\/div>\n
