By the end of September, the army regained control of two key bridges over the Nile River, connecting Khartoum, Omdurman, and North Khartoum for the first time since the conflict began on April 15, 2023. Despite advances and ongoing air raids, the Sudanese army remains under heavy pressure.

Increasing Violations

With violations by the RSF rising and fierce fighting ongoing—particularly in Khartoum, parts of Al-Jazira, and Darfur—Sudan has launched a diplomatic campaign to urge the international community to end the war. The Sudanese government hopes that the new U.S. administration under President Trump will engage more actively in the Sudanese crisis and support the Sudanese army. According to a former U.S. official on Al Jazeera, the United States might direct regional allies, such as Egypt, Ethiopia, or Saudi Arabia, to restart peace talks.

Last week, Khartoum lodged a complaint against Chad with the African Union’s Human Rights Commission. In its efforts to weaken the RSF, Sudan also canceled memoranda of understanding with the UAE concerning Red Sea investments.

Diplomatic Campaign

For several days now, Sudanese diplomats have been holding press conferences in various capitals worldwide, urging the international community to press regional actors that supply weapons and support to the RSF. Sudanese embassies abroad have called for the RSF to be designated as a terrorist organization. Meanwhile, newly appointed Foreign Minister Ali Yusuf has urged the U.S. to strengthen its ties with Sudan, predicting that the war would end within three months in favor of the Sudanese Armed Forces.

This diplomatic push coincides with Sudan’s active participation in international events, including the ILO General Assembly, Interpol meetings in Glasgow, and the extraordinary Arab-Islamic summit attended by the head of Sudan’s Sovereign Council. The Sudanese people eagerly await the outcome of these efforts, as they continue to suffer from the RSF’s violence and human rights abuses.

Sudan Events – Agencies In recent weeks, intense fighting has escalated on multiple fronts between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia.
