On Monday, the Chairman of the Sovereign Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, met with the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, in the presence of the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ali Youssef, Sudan’s Ambassador to Egypt, and Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the Arab League, General Imad al-Din Adawi.<\/div>\n

The Secretary-General of the Arab League, in a press statement, said that the meeting with the head of the Sovereign Council was very positive. He clarified the Arab League’s position of supporting Sudan and its people. He added, “We all hope for an immediate end to the fighting in Sudan and for the country\u2019s reconstruction, as well as for the return of displaced persons and refugees to their areas.” He also noted that he listened to the humanitarian aspects of the issue, which he described as extremely difficult. The discussion focused on how the Arab League can help and cooperate with the international community and the African Union to restore peace and stability to Sudan.<\/div>\n

Aboul Gheit stated that the activities of the Arab League, the United Nations, the African Union, and some influential parties aim to control the situation and help Sudan emerge from this crisis. He added that his upcoming visit to Sudan would highlight the extent of the problem and the need for more effort and action to achieve an immediate ceasefire, the return of peace and stability, and the opportunity for the Sudanese people to secure their lives and restore stability to their country.<\/div>\n

For his part, Sudan\u2019s Ambassador to Egypt, General Imad al-Din Adawi, stated that the Arab League has always stood by Sudan, advocating for its just causes and supporting its national institutions. He emphasized that the League\u2019s stance on Sudan represents a security shield that stresses the need to avoid interference in Sudan\u2019s internal affairs. He pointed to the League\u2019s notable actions toward Sudan, such as organizing workshops for the reconstruction of the industrial and agricultural sectors.<\/div>\n

Adawi expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Arab League’s Secretary-General for his visit to Sudan at this crucial time, mentioning other meetings he had with Sovereign Council member, Deputy Commander-in-Chief General Engineer Ibrahim Jaber, as well as with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Culture, and Information. These meetings primarily focused on the violations committed by the terrorist Al-Daqlo militia against civilians and their targeting of state institutions and infrastructure, noting the support these militias receive from some neighboring and regional countries.
