Spanish police announced on Saturday the arrest of a suspect at M\u00e1laga Airport in southern Spain as part of an investigation into an attack in Brussels in October 2023 that killed two Swedish nationals, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).<\/p>\n
In a statement, police said the individual, wanted in Belgium, is suspected of supplying the firearm used in the attack, which killed two Swedish soccer fans in Brussels ahead of a football match between Belgium and Sweden.<\/p>\n
The suspect was apprehended on Friday while attempting to leave Spain.<\/p>\n
Authorities stated that the individual “faces a potential life sentence as Belgian authorities are seeking him on charges of committing a terrorist attack, murder, and physical injury.”<\/p>\n
The attacker had opened fire on Swedish fans in central Brussels, killing two and injuring a third, before fleeing the scene. He was later killed during a police operation to apprehend him at a caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n
At the time, Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo revealed that the gunman was of Tunisian origin and had been living in the country illegally.<\/p>\n
