In yesterday’s article, I asked: Who are they? Why were they defeated? And how? I classified them into three categories and stated that they were all defeated due to greed, stupidity, and ignorance! How so? Let’s see. In the first part, I examined the first category of the defeated. Today, we look at the last two categories: “QahT” and “the militia’s sponsor.” You know him, of course!<\/p>\n

2<\/strong><\/p>\n

The second member of the Defeated Syndicate is the “Taqaddum” group, also known as “Pile of Ashes” or “Utter Ruin.” These people were greedy for absolute power\u2014a power that would be secured by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). They believed, or rather deluded themselves into believing, that this would rid them of the military dominance of the Islamists\u2019 army. The RSF, in their eyes, was the perfect authoritarian tool\u2014one that could eliminate their Islamist opponents without them having to bear the cost or responsibility for its crimes. This arrangement would also satisfy their foreign patron\u2019s ambitions. On top of that, they could craft an eternal transitional period! But they plot, and Allah plots, and He is the best of plotters.<\/p>\n

This, of course, was ignorance and stupidity regarding the nature of militias. They assumed that the militia would allow them to run the state as they pleased, with its members acting as obedient servants under their command. They were oblivious to the militia\u2019s true nature: treacherous, ruthless, and disloyal to any pact or agreement. It betrayed everyone who trusted it\u2014from Bashir to Burhan\u2014and even turned against QahT itself in 2021. So why would it remain loyal to QahT, especially when QahT entered this treacherous partnership with nothing\u2014no weapons to rely on, no financial resources, a brief and disastrous governance experience, and weak foreign relations? That much became evident later. Has there ever been a case in the Third World where the gun submitted to the whims of politicians? QahT greedily sought power without merit, misunderstood the nature of militias, and failed to grasp what political science calls the balance of power.<\/p>\n

3<\/strong><\/p>\n

The third defeated party is the foreign sponsor, who foolishly believed he could take over Sudan with a single coup. He did everything possible and impossible to achieve this goal. He supplied the militia with everything it needed\u2014and more\u2014for its coup, from all kinds of weapons to foreign experts and mercenaries. He established external operations rooms to manage the battle, bribed neighboring countries for support and quick recognition of the coup, and funded a massive media empire for the militia, pouring millions of dollars into the effort.<\/p>\n

But the sponsor ultimately fell victim to the same fatal trio: greed, ignorance, and stupidity.<\/p>\n

4<\/strong><\/p>\n

The sponsor was blinded by greed\u2014greed for Sudan\u2019s vast wealth, its fertile lands, and the gold and silver both above and beneath its soil. Everything about Sudan was tempting for domination. He craved control over its resources, ports, open markets, and boundless riches, which could entice any adventurer into seizing them.<\/p>\n

However, he underestimated the Sudanese army, misunderstood the reality of the militia and its true nature, and misjudged the Sudanese people’s stance toward it\u2014both before and after the coup. He believed that money could buy anything in Sudan. But this was a deep ignorance of the Sudanese people’s character. His miscalculation led him to push the militia into committing its reckless blunder and then align himself with it\u2014even as it carried out genocide.<\/p>\n

He also failed to realize that in Sudan, some things are simply not for sale, first and foremost dignity. Now, it seems the sponsor has come to understand this truth, after witnessing the Sudanese people’s unwavering rejection\u2014despite all the destruction they have endured\u2014of any initiative that would reintegrate the militia\u2019s thugs into their ranks.<\/p>\n

Thus, by his own ignorance, greed, and stupidity, the sponsor has lost both the Sudanese people and his own interests. The militia has been defeated, while the Islamists’ standing in the eyes of the people has risen.<\/p>\n
