The former head of the Sudanese Goldsmiths, Traders, and Exporters Association, Atif Ahmed, told <em>Al-Ahdath<\/em> that many gold export operations have halted due to rising costs.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, an official, who preferred to remain anonymous, stated to <em>Al-Ahdath<\/em> that the government is keen on exporting gold as it is officially relied upon to support the economy.
