The General Authority for Geological Research (the technical arm of the Sudanese Ministry of Minerals) has finalized a contract with the Spanish company Sierra to supply a salt refining and purification plant in Port Sudan, with a production capacity of up to 10 tons per hour.<\/p>\n
The contract was signed in Barcelona, Spain, by the Director General of the Authority, Geological Consultant Ahmed Haroun Al-Tom. This project aligns with the ministry’s and the authority’s interest in industrial minerals, as part of research-based production initiatives, including the development of the salt industry in Sudan.<\/p>\n
The manufacturing company stated that it has begun producing parts of the plant, which will be made of high-quality steel, exceeding 80% in composition. The plant is expected to arrive in Sudan by August 2025 and commence official production by the end of 2025, generating substantial revenue for both the authority and the state.<\/p>\n
The plant’s production capacity of approximately 10 tons per hour will enable it to produce large quantities of iodized table salt, addressing iodine deficiency-related health issues.
