The United Nations has expressed deep concern over the risk of Sudan’s \u201cdisintegration\u201d following the announcement by Rapid Support Forces (RSF) leader, Hemedti, of plans to form a parallel government in the near future.<\/p>\n
UN Secretary-General spokesperson St\u00e9phane Dujarric told Agence France-Presse (AFP): \u201cWe are deeply concerned about any further escalation of the conflict in Sudan, including actions that would further fragment the country and entrench the crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dujarric stressed that \u201cpreserving Sudan\u2019s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity is fundamental to moving toward a lasting resolution to the crisis and ensuring long-term stability for the country and the region.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added, \u201cAs an international community, we must find ways to help the Sudanese people end this horrific catastrophe and establish acceptable arrangements for transition.\u201d<\/p>\n
Similarly, the British government condemned the RSF\u2019s announcement of forming a rival government in Sudan, stating that it \u201cis not the solution\u201d to the war that has torn the country apart for two years.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for the UK Foreign Office said in a statement: \u201cUnilateral announcements aimed at forming a parallel government are not the solution. On the contrary, maintaining Sudan’s territorial unity and sovereignty is essential.\u201d<\/p>\n
