The Sudanese Doctors\u2019 Network reported that 179 civilians were killed in May due to deliberate rocket shelling by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the city of El Fasher in North Darfur. Additionally, 12 people died from hunger and lack of food and medicine, amid a siege that has been imposed on the city for over a year.<\/p>\n
In a statement, the network said El Fasher is experiencing a worsening humanitarian crisis, with alarming rates of acute malnutrition among women and children. More than 350,000 children are now at direct risk of starvation due to the near-total absence of food, the lack of essential items such as salt, sugar, and hygiene products, as well as water contamination and the spread of disease.<\/p>\n
The network described the humanitarian situation in the city as \u201ccatastrophic,\u201d stressing that the ongoing siege and rocket attacks amount to \u201cgenocide\u201d against nearly one million civilians trapped inside the city.<\/p>\n
The Sudanese Doctors\u2019 Network called on the international community and UN agencies to take immediate action to open safe corridors for humanitarian aid and to stop the attacks on civilians.
