On Sunday, the Sudanese Armed Forces and their supporting units delivered a severe blow to the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, shattering months-long preparations by the group to seize control of the city of El Fasher\u2014one of the last remaining strongholds resisting their advance.<\/p>\n

According to sources cited by Asda\u2019 Sudanese, the force that launched the Sunday morning assault on El Fasher had undergone intensive training for months under the supervision of foreign operatives brought in specifically for this purpose. Some of the troops were reportedly trained in Libya, while others received training in the desert. These units formed the elite nucleus of the militia\u2019s special forces, personally deployed by the RSF’s deputy commander, Abdelrahim Dagalo, who considered the mission of capturing El Fasher to be a simple one\u2014despite the city having stood firm for two consecutive years.<\/p>\n

The attacking force, made up primarily of the Mahariya clan and members of the Dagalo family, launched multiple waves of assaults from the eastern and northeastern fronts in a battle that lasted more than five hours.<\/p>\n

Resistance and Resolve<\/strong><\/p>\n

In an official statement issued Sunday, the Joint Forces declared a decisive victory in what they called Battle No. 214, announcing that they had repelled a fierce assault by the RSF and its allies, following a night of heavy shelling on residential neighborhoods and internally displaced persons (IDP) camps.<\/p>\n

The statement read:<\/strong>
\n\u201cIn the early hours of Sunday, the rebel RSF militia attempted to storm El Fasher from the eastern and northeastern fronts using what they referred to as their \u2018Strategic Battalion,\u2019 claiming it was highly trained under orders from their second-in-command. However, the courage and valor of our armed forces, joint units, local resistance, and mobilized citizens in Adab Al-Asi turned the enemy\u2019s ambitions into a humiliating defeat.\u201d<\/p>\n

Defeat and Retreat<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Joint Forces revealed the destruction of six Emirati \u201cSarsar\u201d armored vehicles along with their full crews, and ten combat vehicles with all onboard personnel. Dozens of RSF fighters were reportedly killed or dispersed, with the rest pursued to the outskirts of the city.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis battle proves,\u201d the statement continued, \u201cthat victory is not achieved through wishful thinking or the false propaganda spread by the rebel militia and its misleading media\u2014but through courage, faith in a just cause, and steadfastness. El Fasher will remain standing, like Stalingrad, defying aggressors and invaders alike.\u201d<\/p>\n

A Test That Failed<\/strong><\/p>\n

The militia\u2019s assault on Sunday came roughly six weeks after its previous attempt to take El Fasher. Observers attribute the pause to the RSF leadership\u2019s waning confidence in its regular fighters, many of whom had failed in previous offensives on the city. This prompted them to deploy what they labeled as their \u201celite forces,\u201d in a desperate bid to test new tactics.<\/p>\n

However, Sunday\u2019s defeat dealt a major blow to the RSF\u2019s leadership, who had hoped that these special units could succeed where regular forces had failed. Instead, the Sudanese Armed Forces and Joint Units crushed the much-touted elite troops, reducing them to \u201cpaper tigers,\u201d as survivors scattered across the valleys of North Darfur.<\/p>\n

A Shocking Battle<\/strong><\/p>\n

Military analysts described Sunday\u2019s battle as a stunning and demoralizing defeat for the RSF, noting that the group threw in its best-trained and most equipped units in a final push to seize El Fasher. Having lost its primary force, the militia now has few remaining options. However, some experts warned that the RSF might resort to suicide-style attacks in a last-ditch effort\u2014similar to its failed operations at the Armored Corps and General Command in Khartoum. Should this happen, they say, the militia could face total collapse across the Darfur region.<\/p>\n
