A spokesperson for the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday denied that Ethiopian forces had been deployed toward the disputed Al-Fashaga border area with Sudan, affirming that the country’s army is not conducting any activity there.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a press conference held at the ministry’s headquarters, spokesperson Nebiat Getachew reaffirmed Ethiopia\u2019s commitment to a policy of good neighborliness and non-escalation. He stressed that Ethiopia\u2019s relationships with neighboring countries are based on the principles of mutual respect and shared benefit.<\/p>\n
In a separate context, Getachew stated that Ethiopia had adopted a quiet diplomacy approach that prevented the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) issue from being placed on the United Nations Security Council’s agenda.<\/p>\n
He emphasized that Ethiopia had countered what he described as “false propaganda” promoted by Egypt regarding the dam\u2019s threat, announcing that the dam will be officially inaugurated in September.<\/p>\n
At the same time, Getachew called for the dam project to become a point of cooperation rather than conflict between Ethiopia, Sudan, and Egypt.<\/p>\n
