Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris emphasized the need for justice to take its course, particularly in matters related to war crimes and violations committed by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia against civilians. He called upon Sudanese lawyers and legal professionals to mobilize and contribute to documenting the militia’s widespread violations.<\/p>\n
During a meeting at his office in Port Sudan on Wednesday, Dr. Idris met with a delegation from the Bar Association. The meeting discussed the legal responsibilities entrusted to lawyers during the current phase. The Prime Minister affirmed the Cabinet\u2019s readiness to closely cooperate with legal professionals to uphold the legal rights of citizens.<\/p>\n
In a press statement, Acting President of the Bar Association, Zain Al-Abideen Mohamed Hamad, noted that the association has major legal obligations, foremost among them the defense of the nation amidst the extensive violations committed by the RSF militia.<\/p>\n
He affirmed the association\u2019s commitment to its national duty in support of the “War of Dignity” and its willingness to do everything required in service of the nation under the leadership of the Hope Government headed by Dr. Idris. \u201cWe have duties and responsibilities as the Bar Association and as one of the largest civil society organizations in the country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The delegation\u2014which included the association’s Secretary-General, a representative of the Lawyers\u2019 Admission Committee, and the Bar Association\u2019s agent in Red Sea State\u2014briefed the Prime Minister on its efforts domestically and abroad to provide legal support for the nation. They also discussed a legal initiative by lawyers to support the Hope Government, stressing the importance of lawyers being a pillar of justice in Sudan.
