He emphasized that Sudan has fulfilled all requirements for the restoration of its membership, including the appointment of a civilian prime minister and the formation of the \u201cHope Government\u201d comprising independent national technocrats.<\/p>\n
Dr. Idris argued that the African Union stands to benefit the most from Sudan\u2019s return as an active member, given Sudan\u2019s longstanding contributions to African initiatives predating the AU\u2019s establishment.<\/p>\n
During a meeting at his office in Port Sudan with Ambassador Mohamed Belaiche, Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission and Head of the AU Liaison Office in Sudan, the Prime Minister reiterated the Hope Government\u2019s full readiness to cooperate with the African Union on all issues concerning the continent.<\/p>\n
He also highlighted Sudan\u2019s historic roles within the African framework, underscoring the importance of safeguarding national sovereignty, the state\u2019s authority, and the dignity of the Sudanese people\u2014stating this is a \u201cred line\u201d in all dealings.<\/p>\n
Dr. Idris stressed the importance of a Sudanese-led dialogue held within Sudan, announcing the Hope Government\u2019s commitment to creating the conditions necessary for a successful national dialogue.<\/p>\n
For his part, Ambassador Belaiche emphasized the importance of restoring Sudan\u2019s AU membership and confirmed the Union\u2019s support for Sudan\u2019s legitimate institutions. He also pointed to the AU\u2019s interest in post-war reconstruction programs and voluntary return for displaced persons and refugees.<\/p>\n
