Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that Israel has no choice but to “complete the job” and defeat Hamas, given the Palestinian group’s refusal to lay down its arms.
\nNetnayahu also told a news conference that his new Gaza offensive plans aim to tackle two remaining Hamas strongholds.

According to the AP news, he was speaking to foreign media in Jerusalem and defending a planned military offensive. He asserts that \u201cour goal is not to occupy Gaza, our goal is to free Gaza.\u201d He is also pushing back against what he calls a \u201cglobal campaign of lies\u201d as condemnation of the plan grows both inside and outside Israel.<\/p>\n
Netanyahu said there is a \u201cfairly short timetable\u201d in mind for next steps in Gaza.<\/p>\n
The goals there, he said, include demilitarizing Gaza, the Israeli military having \u201coverriding security control\u201d there and a non-Israeli civilian administration in charge.<\/p>\n
The prime minister also said he had directed Israel\u2019s military in recent days to \u201cbring in more foreign journalists\u201d \u2014 which would be a striking development as they have not been allowed into Gaza beyond military embeds.<\/p>\n
