The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) reported Monday that a landslide in the village of Tirsin in Jebel Marra, Darfur, has left 375 people dead.<\/p>\n
In a statement posted on Facebook, the UN agency said \u201cthe landslide in Jebel Marra claimed 375 lives, with many still missing.\u201d<\/p>\n
It noted that search and rescue efforts face major challenges due to rough terrain and heavy rainfall. The agency has provided hygiene kits and medical supplies to the affected areas.<\/p>\n
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said it will review findings from the ongoing assessment mission on Tuesday to determine further needs.<\/p>\n
The assessment team, which included UN agencies, international, and local organizations, had to transport aid on pack animals, taking more than 12 hours to reach the isolated, flood-hit village.<\/p>\n
OCHA confirmed that life-saving aid has already been delivered to over 1,000 people, with urgent needs including food, health services, nutrition, water, sanitation, and hygiene support.<\/p>\n
