Sudan\u2019s ambassador to Addis Ababa and permanent representative to the African Union, Al-Zain Ibrahim Hussein, received the new UN Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Guang Cong, on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Ambassador Al-Zain briefed the envoy on Sudan\u2019s situation, particularly the war waged by the RSF with foreign mercenaries from 17 countries, supported by external actors. He said this had displaced or forced into exile 13 million Sudanese, destroyed infrastructure and state institutions, and led to widespread looting of public and private property.<\/p>\n
He expressed readiness to cooperate with the envoy in carrying out his mission, urging condemnation of the RSF and rejection of destabilizing forces.<\/p>\n
For his part, Cong thanked the ambassador for the briefing, noting his eagerness to work constructively with Sudanese officials. He pledged to focus on peace and stability in Sudan and the region, citing his prior experience in UN peacekeeping missions in Sudan and South Sudan, as well as his diplomatic work at China\u2019s mission to the UN Security Council.<\/p>\n
