Speaking on ABC\u2019s \u201cGood Morning America,\u201d Rubio said Washington has not restricted aid to Sudan but warned that parties to the conflict are weaponizing relief supplies. \u201cIn Sudan, for example, this is not just a humanitarian catastrophe, it is a war zone. Aid is stolen and blocked. They use it as a tool of war,\u201d he said, stressing that the inability to distribute assistance is the main reason supplies fail to reach civilians.<\/p>\n
His comments coincided with a UN statement confirming that the RSF has blocked humanitarian access to Darfur in general and El-Fasher in particular.<\/p>\n
Although Rubio refrained from naming the party responsible, UN Resident Coordinator in Sudan, Denise Brown, directly blamed the RSF in an interview with Sudan Tribune. She noted that while the Sudanese Armed Forces had agreed to a ceasefire to allow aid access, the RSF had refused, creating a major obstacle.<\/p>\n
