Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris said Sudan\u2019s delegation to the UN General Assembly in New York secured understandings with the AU Chairperson, the AU Commission, and several African leaders on the country\u2019s reinstatement to the African Union.<\/p>\n
Speaking Wednesday at a Sudan News Agency briefing after the delegation\u2019s return, Idris stressed that \u201cthe AU needs Sudan\u2019s return more than the reverse,\u201d recalling Sudan\u2019s role as a founding member of the Organization of African Unity.<\/p>\n
He noted strong support among African leaders and said Sudan\u2019s comeback is only a matter of time. He emphasized that agreements reached in New York were anchored in \u201ca strong Sudan, not a broken one.\u201d<\/p>\n
Idris added that the delegation also worked to break the siege on El-Fasher and other blockaded cities, pressing the UN General Assembly to put pressure on the \u201crebel militia\u201d to halt its abuses against civilians.<\/p>\n
He confirmed Sudan formally requested that the Rapid Support Forces be designated a terrorist organization. The delegation, he said, firmly upheld Sudan\u2019s sovereignty and territorial integrity before the international community.<\/p>\n
The prime minister added that he sensed strong backing for Sudan from the UN and international partners, noting he personally invited Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres to visit Sudan\u2014an invitation the UN chief accepted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
