The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Summit on Thursday strongly condemned the formation of a parallel government by the Rapid Support Forces in the Darfur region.<\/p>\n
The summit called for lifting the siege on El-Fashir and for full compliance with the UN Security Council resolution addressing the crisis, reaffirming its support for Sudan\u2019s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.<\/p>\n
Sudan participated in the 24th Summit of Heads of State and Government of COMESA, along with the Council of Foreign Ministers\u2019 meeting, held in Nairobi, Kenya, from October 6\u20139, 2025.<\/p>\n
The Sudanese delegation was headed by Acting Charg\u00e9 d\u2019Affaires at Sudan\u2019s Embassy in Kenya, Ambassador Mohamed Osman Okasha, accompanied by members of the diplomatic mission.<\/p>\n
COMESA member states denounced the repeated attacks on civilians that have caused a severe humanitarian crisis in Darfur and urged an end to hostilities in line with the Jeddah peace agreement.<\/p>\n
The summit also welcomed the Sudanese government\u2019s decision to extend the opening of humanitarian corridors to facilitate aid delivery to those in need.<\/p>\n
In its final communiqu\u00e9, the summit adopted several recommendations on peace and security across the COMESA region, including the situation in Sudan.<\/p>\n
It also welcomed the Sudanese government\u2019s decision to form a civilian-led cabinet under Prime Minister Kamil Idris and reaffirmed its unwavering support for Sudan\u2019s sovereignty and rejection of any foreign interference in its internal affairs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
