The Sudanese government has lodged a formal protest with the United Nations over what it described as a \u201cbrutal and barbaric attack\u201d by the \u201cterrorist militia\u201d on the Dar Al-Arqam Shelter Center in El Fasher.<\/p>\n
The assault left 60 people dead, most of them women and children, and dozens injured.<\/p>\n
Sudan\u2019s mission to the UN submitted a strongly worded memorandum to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the President of the Human Rights Council, and the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, accompanied by a statement issued by the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n
In the memo, Sudan stressed that the militia\u2019s persistence in committing such crimes is a direct result of the international community\u2019s silence over previous atrocities.<\/p>\n
The note urged the international community\u2014especially the UN Security Council, Human Rights Council, and the High Commissioner for Human Rights\u2014to move beyond condemnations and statements and take concrete deterrent measures to stop these grave violations of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions of 1949.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
