Local residents in Nyala, South Darfur, revealed on Monday that two individuals died as a result of torture and hunger at the Daqris prison, west of Nyala city.<\/p>\n
The family of one of the deceased told Darfur24 that their 50-year-old relative died last week in Daqris prison due to torture and starvation, after being accused of collaborating with the army by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).<\/p>\n
The family noted that the victim was a retired police officer residing in Al-Wadi neighborhood in the city center. He suffered from diabetes and hypertension and was denied access to his medication, which led to a deterioration in his health and ultimately his death in prison.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the brother of another detainee, who preferred to remain anonymous, told Darfur24 that his brother, Hafiz, from the livestock market, was arrested by the RSF. Hafiz, who works with the RSF, faced accusations of embezzlement and collaborating with the army.<\/p>\n
He added that his brother was beaten and tortured to force a confession and, after his health worsened, was transferred to the Turkish Hospital, where he died.<\/p>\n
Relatives of detainees told Darfur24 that hunger and torture now threaten the lives of inmates at Daqris prison. They said the RSF reduced detainees\u2019 meals to only one per day and continued to use torture to extract confessions.<\/p>\n
Daqris prison, located in Al-Salam locality, South Darfur, houses thousands of detainees, including politicians, activists, and military personnel from Khartoum, Al-Jazeera, Kordofan, and Darfur.
