Foreign ministers of the G7 issued a strong condemnation of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the ethnically motivated attacks carried out against civilians in Sudan\u2014particularly in al-Fashir and Kordofan\u2014according to their joint statement released Wednesday at the conclusion of their meeting in Niagara, Canada. The bloc includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States, with the EU High Representative also participating.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe G7 Foreign Ministers strongly condemn the recent escalation of violence and attacks\u2014often ethnically driven\u2014by the RSF against unarmed civilians and humanitarian workers, especially in al-Fashir and North Kordofan,\u201d the statement read. \u201cWe deplore the devastating impact this war has had on civilians, including a famine that has created the world\u2019s largest humanitarian crisis. We strongly condemn sexual violence.\u201d<\/p>\n
The group urged both the RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces to respect human rights, de-escalate hostilities, commit to an immediate and lasting ceasefire, and ensure rapid, unhindered humanitarian access.<\/p>\n
