The European Parliament has voted on a joint draft resolution proposed by four political groups regarding the \u201cescalation of the war and the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Sudan.\u201d A total of 503 members supported the resolution, which strongly condemns the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for their violations, while 32 members voted against it and 52 abstained.
\nIn a statement on Thursday, Members of Parliament strongly condemned the grave and systematic violations of international humanitarian law and human rights committed in Sudan.
\nThey stated that indiscriminate attacks against civilians, violence targeting ethnic minorities, sexual violence, torture, deliberate starvation tactics, the use of child soldiers, attacks on hospitals and humanitarian facilities, and the intentional starvation of civilians may constitute acts of genocide.
\nThe European Parliament expressed deep concern over the alarming deterioration of the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, affirming the presence of famine in parts of the country, and noted that the conflict is fueling the world\u2019s worst humanitarian disaster.
\nMembers reaffirmed Sudan\u2019s sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity, emphasizing the legitimacy of the civilian government in Khartoum. They rejected any attempt to establish parallel or competing authorities or political structures in areas controlled by the RSF.
\nThe Parliament condemned all forms of foreign interference that fuel the war in Sudan, and urged external actors to comply with the UN-imposed arms embargo.
\nMembers of the European Parliament declared their support for the African Union and regional partners in facilitating the peace process, and called on all parties to engage in meaningful dialogue to end the conflict and establish a transition toward democratic civilian rule.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
