Chairman of the Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, received on Sunday the UN Secretary-General\u2019s personal envoy, Ramtane Lamamra, in the presence of Foreign Minister Ambassador Mohieddin Salem.<\/p>\n
Al-Burhan welcomed the envoy, affirming Sudan\u2019s readiness to cooperate with the United Nations and all its agencies operating in the country to achieve humanitarian, developmental, and social goals.<\/p>\n
He stressed the government\u2019s appreciation of the Secretary-General\u2019s efforts and personal interest in Sudan\u2019s peace file, commending Lamamra\u2019s work toward fostering peace. Al-Burhan reiterated the government\u2019s desire to achieve peace nationwide in a manner that meets the aspirations of the Sudanese people.<\/p>\n
He also reaffirmed the government\u2019s commitment to continue working with the Secretary-General and his envoy to enhance security and stability in Sudan and the broader region.<\/p>\n
Lamamra stated that he came to Sudan to follow up on the political, security, and humanitarian situation at the request of the UN Secretary-General, who has been closely monitoring developments.<\/p>\n
He acknowledged the complexity of the situation for the Sudanese government but emphasized that opportunities still exist for a Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue capable of ending bloodshed and restoring stability.
