Sudan\u2019s Sovereignty Council Chairman and Army Commander, Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, affirmed on Thursday that \u201cthere will be no ceasefire before the RSF surrenders and hands over its weapons.\u201d<\/p>\n
In remarks to Al-Arabiya\/Al-Hadath, al-Burhan dismissed claims of Muslim Brotherhood elements within the army or government as \u201cfalse and baseless.\u201d He added: \u201cThe Brotherhood has no connection to the army or the government.\u201d<\/p>\n
He insisted that the solution to the war is primarily military, with other solutions to follow. He said he would not sit down with the RSF unless it lays down its arms.<\/p>\n
Withdrawal of the rebels and disarmament, he said, are essential conditions for the success of any ceasefire. He added that it is impossible to allow militias to return to the scene, saying normalization is not possible as long as they exist.<\/p>\n
Al-Burhan said \u201cunilateral initiatives cannot succeed,\u201d but stressed that the army \u201cwelcomes any opportunity that leads to genuine peace.\u201d<\/p>\n
