Justice Minister Abdullah Darf criticized, on Sunday, the peace initiatives proposed for Sudan, arguing that they \u201cdo not offer a clear vision regarding the future of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia and its weapons,\u201d which he sees as a fundamental prerequisite for achieving sustainable peace in the country.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the Doha Forum, Darf stressed that peace \u201cmust be sustainable, not a tactical process,\u201d adding that the failure to address the root causes of the conflict and the structural nature of the RSF complicates efforts to end a war now in its third year.<\/p>\n
He emphasized that \u201cwhat is happening in Sudan is not an internal conflict as often portrayed. This is a militia that attempted to seize power by force of arms,\u201d noting that the RSF \u201chas committed crimes and atrocities and continues to receive clear and overt external support.\u201d<\/p>\n
Darf added that the international community \u201chas taken no meaningful steps to stop the RSF\u2019s crimes,\u201d asserting that Sudan \u201cis facing a full-fledged aggression involving regional actors,\u201d though he did not name them.<\/p>\n
