Sudan\u2019s Transitional Sovereignty Council Chairman, Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, received a written message from African Union Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat.<\/p>\n
The message was delivered on Friday in Port Sudan by the African Union envoy to Sudan, Ambassador Mohamed Belhaish, in the presence of Sudan\u2019s Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Maawia Osman.<\/p>\n
In a press statement, the envoy described the meeting as a valuable opportunity to consult on the most effective ways to advance national, regional, and international efforts to secure stability and security in Sudan, emphasizing its pivotal role in the region and within the African Union.<\/p>\n
Ambassador Belhaish said he listened to Sudanese leadership\u2019s insights regarding developments and prospects for a solution, particularly the roadmap announced in February.<\/p>\n
He stressed the AU Commission and Peace and Security Council\u2019s firm commitment to supporting Sudan\u2019s sovereignty and unity, asserting that \u201cthere is no place for any parallel institution on Sudanese soil.\u201d He reiterated the importance of a peaceful political solution through an inclusive national dialogue, as pursued by the \u201c5-Mechanism\u201d comprising the African Union, IGAD, the United Nations, the Arab League, and the European Union.<\/p>\n
Belhaish condemned systematic attacks against civilians, killings by the RSF, and destruction of civilian infrastructure as \u201cutterly reprehensible,\u201d emphasizing that perpetrators will not escape punishment.
