The launch took place in Port Sudan, the capital of Red Sea State.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Acting Governor praised the efforts of the Payments Systems Department and its staff in restoring clearing operations under the supervision of the Governor, noting that all technical and operational requirements necessary to resume cheque collection through the electronic clearing system have been completed. He also thanked the Union of Banks and relevant stakeholders for their cooperation and coordination in activating the system and organizing the electronic exchange of cheques among banks.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>For his part, Deputy Governor Dr. Sami Abdelhafiz Saleh expressed his appreciation to the technical and specialized committees that accepted the major challenge and worked diligently. He reaffirmed the Central Bank\u2019s commitment to developing and modernizing payment systems in support of economic recovery efforts and to strengthening confidence in the country\u2019s banking sector.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>As part of the electronic clearing system\u2019s operational plan, and to facilitate banks\u2019 access to their balances held with the Central Bank of Sudan across all its branches, the IT Department designed a new system that enables commercial banks to view their balances at Central Bank branches.
