{"id":60463,"date":"2026-02-02T23:41:19","date_gmt":"2026-02-02T20:41:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sudanevents.com\/?p=60463"},"modified":"2026-02-02T23:41:19","modified_gmt":"2026-02-02T20:41:19","slug":"transport-minister-announces-launch-of-capital-metro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sudanevents.com\/index.php\/2026\/02\/02\/transport-minister-announces-launch-of-capital-metro\/","title":{"rendered":"Transport Minister Announces Launch of \u201cCapital Metro\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Minister of Transport Saif Al-Nasr Al-Tijani Haroun announced the launch of a major project dubbed the \u201cCapital Metro,\u201d as part of an integrated plan to rehabilitate and develop Sudan\u2019s transport sectors.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The minister said the next phase will rely on international partnerships and private-sector participation to meet post-war reconstruction requirements.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>He revealed a comprehensive national program to upgrade airports in line with international standards, including the construction of alternative airports and a proposal to establish a new airport in the Butana region. The plan also includes support for the national carrier, Sudan Airways (Sudanair), through the addition of three modern aircraft, as well as the modernization of the airports of Dongola, El Obeid, Kassala, and Merowe to enhance their international competitiveness.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Regarding domestic infrastructure, the minister explained that the plan includes upgrading the railway network and implementing a metro project in the capital, Khartoum, to ease mobility.
