Ahead of the anticipated deliberations of the UN Human Rights Council on Sudan scheduled for the 26th of this month, Sudan\u2019s Permanent Representative in Geneva, Ambassador Hassan Hamed Hassan, held a meeting on Sunday with the President of the Human Rights Council, Ambassador Suriodipero. The meeting came in advance of the Council\u2019s upcoming discussions on the situation in Sudan.<\/strong><\/p>\n

During the meeting, the Sudanese envoy provided a comprehensive briefing on the crimes and violations committed by the rebel militia, and outlined the government\u2019s peace initiative, with particular emphasis on provisions related to human rights and violations of international humanitarian law.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a related development, Sudan\u2019s Permanent Mission in Geneva submitted a strongly worded memorandum to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Presidency of the Council. The memorandum circulated the statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation regarding the heinous humanitarian crime committed by the rebel militia, which targeted a World Food Programme convoy in North Kordofan using drones and missiles.
