{"id":61172,"date":"2026-03-17T00:55:44","date_gmt":"2026-03-16T21:55:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sudanevents.com\/?p=61172"},"modified":"2026-03-17T00:55:44","modified_gmt":"2026-03-16T21:55:44","slug":"finalissima-match-between-spain-and-argentina-in-qatar-cancelled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sudanevents.com\/index.php\/2026\/03\/17\/finalissima-match-between-spain-and-argentina-in-qatar-cancelled\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cFinalissima\u201d Match Between Spain and Argentina in Qatar Cancelled"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UEFA announced on Sunday that the \u201cFinalissima\u201d match between the champions of Europe and South America \u2014 Spain and Argentina \u2014 scheduled to be held in Qatar later this month has been cancelled due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The match between European champions Spain and Copa Am\u00e9rica holders Argentina had been scheduled for March 27 at Lusail Stadium in Doha.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>UEFA said it held discussions with organizers in Qatar and concluded that the match could not take place because of the \u201ccurrent political situation\u201d in the region.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In a statement, the European governing body said: \u201cUEFA and the organizers are deeply disappointed that circumstances and timing have prevented the two teams from competing for this prestigious trophy in Qatar.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>UEFA said it had examined alternative options, but they were \u201cnot acceptable\u201d to the Argentine Football Association.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>An initial proposal suggested staging the match at Santiago Bernab\u00e9u Stadium, with the crowd divided equally between the two teams\u2019 supporters.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>A second option involved staging the Finalissima over two legs \u2014 the first at the Bernab\u00e9u on March 27 and the second in Buenos Aires during the international break before the European Championship and Copa Am\u00e9rica.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>However, the Argentine federation rejected both proposals.
