The process, which began on May 15, 2026, will officially end at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In a statement, the Central Bank directed commercial banks to continue facilitating bank account opening procedures for individuals who do not yet have accounts, in order to promote financial inclusion and enable citizens to benefit from banking services.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Bank confirmed that with the close of business at commercial banks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2026, the currency exchange process in the concerned states would officially come to an end. Consequently, the old editions of the 500 and 1,000 pound notes will cease to be legal tender.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Central Bank clarified that the old currency in the remaining states not covered by the first and second phases of the exchange process will remain legal tender and valid for circulation until further notice from the Bank, in a manner that safeguards the funds and rights of citizens in those states.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Bank also urged all citizens to promptly deposit the targeted banknotes through banking channels, noting that the currency replacement initiative is part of efforts to strengthen confidence in the banking system.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Central Bank of Sudan announced the conclusion of the second phase of the currency exchange process for the old 1,000 and 500 Sudanese pound banknotes in the states of Khartoum and Al Jazirah, as well as in some localities of White Nile State that were not included in the first phase.
