The session was dedicated to discussing the various challenges facing the countries of the African Sahel, with the participation of countries in the immediate region: Sudan, Chad, Libya, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mauritania.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>According to a media bulletin, Ambassador Al-Zein proposed that the Peace and Security Council dedicate a specialized session to the phenomenon of mercenaries and foreign fighters spreading across the region. He highlighted the danger posed by mercenary elements that participated in the ranks of the terrorist Rapid Support Forces militia in the aggression against Sudan.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Sudanese representative warned of the spread of mercenary elements throughout the region, particularly in countries surrounding the Lake Chad Basin, which he said would further exacerbate armed conflicts, crime, terrorism, and instability.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The meeting, chaired by Algeria, discussed the various challenges facing the countries of the region, foremost among them armed conflicts, crime, the effects of climate change, terrorism, and instability, as well as the role of the African Union.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sudan has called on the African Peace and Security Council to convene a special session to discuss the phenomenon of mercenaries and foreign fighters spreading across the region.
