\nCOP28 President Dr. Sultan al-Jaber kicked up high level talks on Friday addressing world leaders, saying: \u201cAs the largest gathering of world leaders to attend a COP summit you are collectively demonstrating your real commitment to climate action.\u201d
\nHe said the world had collectively made history on Thursday by committing to a historic deal to finally launch and capitalize a fund that helps the most vulnerable countries deal with the worst effects of climate change.
\nAl-Jaber continued: \u201cI will do everything in my power to channel the momentum you generate at the summit into an ambitious response to the global stocktake and to keep the North Star of 1.5 within reach.\u201d
\nSimon Stiell, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), also addressed the summit, saying climate change effects are not being seen in \u201csome far flung parts of the world.\u201d
\n\u201cIt is by continent by continent, region by region,\u201d he added. \u201cNone of\u00a0us\u00a0are\u00a0immune.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
